Looking for a Peaceful Morning?
I sat down in my comfy chair, legs propped up, and holding my mug of “oh, so good” coffee with that special creamer in it. Yet, for some reason that precious, cozy, “wake me up” moment eluded me.
I scrolled through messages and websites on my iPad and my thoughts were racing. “Wow, I’m never going to be as good as she is. I’m just not good enough. What do people think of me? I just don’t have what it takes.”
My heart was pounding in my chest, and my breathing was short and shallow. “I better get to work if I’m ever going to make it. I have so much to do! Where should I start?”
Just before I shrugged off my normal morning ritual in order to dig right in to my work, I heard a still small voice, “come to me.”
“Exactly!” I thought, as I grabbed my journal, desperate for some needed help and direction of what I should do. My words tumbled over each other as I laid before God all the thoughts that were crowding in my mind. I sighed, “I’m a mess.”
As my mind quieted, new thoughts came. “I have plans for you. I love you. I will provide for all of your needs. You can trust me.” I breathed them in, and felt the tension release. My breathing slowed, and I hugged my mug with a smile. “Yes, Lord, that is exactly what I needed. Thank you, you are so good to me!”
God gently pulled me back to him. He gently reminded me of where my peace and confidence come from.
How about you? Do you have moments like this where you anxiously try to figure out all of the things that you need to be doing? Do you get caught up in comparison and feelings of low self-worth as a result?
God has a much better plan for us! To rest in Him!
Will you join me in starting your day with God instead of letting the world crowd our minds out with every kind of worry and concern? Let’s make a plan to do it!
What’s one step you can take today to begin carving out time first thing in the morning to spend with God. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can even be a few whispered words to Him before anything else grabs your attention. The important thing is to just start with Him. It can mean the difference between starting your day with fear or calm. Are you ready? Let me know how it goes for you in the comments below.
Mark 1:35 – “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
