Growing in Confidence through Self-Acceptance

Do you struggle with confidence?

For a long time I’ve struggled with lack of confidence. I think it stemmed from feeling self-conscious, lacking belief in my abilities or the fear of the unknown. I’ve come a long way in my growth in this area, but I still have my moments when I struggle.

What has helped me to grow in confidence? Many things, but I’ll talk with you about one of them here:

Accepting Who God Created Me to Be

This is one that’s made a big difference. When I’m not accepting myself, I’m comparing myself to others. This often leads to me feeling negatively about myself in one way or another and that leads to low confidence. When I truly accept myself for who God created me to be, I am able to be confident because I’m living the life that I was meant to live.

It’s when I try to be someone I’m not that I really struggle with confidence issues. Think about it, this makes so much sense! If I’m trying to be someone I’m not, I’m not going to measure up, and therefore I’ll struggle with being self-conscious and not feel very confident.

Growing in Confidence through Self-Acceptance

However, when I really look at who God created me to be, and I accept that, and I sink myself into that, I find that I feel fulfilled, I thrive and I excel. Then, I am also living confidently.

Galatians 6:4-5 says,”Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.”

These are some of my favorite verses, because it really captures the message I am trying to share with you. God wants us to embrace who he created us to be and to live out the purpose that he has for us. He doesn’t want us to try to be someone else or to compare ourselves with others. There is no one else on earth who was created like you or me and there is no one else on earth who can fill the purpose that we were created for! I find that to be both exciting and liberating.

What are you going to do to live more confidently as who you were created to be? I’d love to hear your story!
