Do your goals make you smile?
Have you made goals that make you excited to get up in the morning? When you envision achieving your goal, is it difficult to keep the smile off of your face? If not, you may need to re-think through your goals!
Are your goals “shoulds”?
A should sounds more like a task rather than a goal, doesn’t it? Generally speaking, we grit our teeth to get through doing a should. It’s definitely not something that we feel energized or excited about. Although life has a lot of things that we have to do, should do, need to do or ought to do, our goals “shouldn’t” fall into this category!
Goals should be meaningful, powerful, exciting and energizing. Goals should make you smile!
It takes time to create goals that fit this, but it is so worth it when you do. Here are some pointers to help you achieve this:
1. Allow yourself to dream about what you want your future to be like.
2. Take time to discover who you are and what your purpose is.
3. Then develop a goal that encompasses those two pieces.
Having goals that make you smile will allow you to jump out of bed in the morning instead of dragging yourself out. They will allow you to create a life where you can thrive instead of just feeling like you are surviving.
If you need help in the process of dreaming, discovering and developing goals, we would love to work with you through this.
