This week we are looking at affirmations.
From time to time, we all struggle with things like doubt and negative self-talk that lead to a lot of negative feelings and being stuck. Often, our doubts or negative thoughts are based on lies. Have you ever thought about this before?
I used to think that I needed to pay attention to my doubts. I thought that they would help me really consider a situation and make the best decision as a result. I was wrong. All that my doubts did for me was to make be believe lies and keep me stuck instead of moving forward.
Have you ever thought about where doubts come from? From a Christian point of view, we know that our enemy, the devil, is the author of doubts and lies. Never in the Bible do we read that God uses doubts to speak with us. On the contrary, God continually calls us to faith, not doubt!
The same thing is true about negative self-talk. It is often based on doubts and lies, or when we get caught up into comparing ourselves to others. Again, this type of thinking keeps us stuck instead of moving forward into the life we were created for.
One of the best ways to combat these situations is to use the truth. We can speak the truth to ourselves through positive affirmations and through using scripture. These statements and verses can remind us of the truth and keep us from getting caught up in lies and doubts.
When I think about how destructive that doubts and negative self-talk are, I am amazed at how easily I can allow them into my life! Well, this is definitely something I want to change. Now, this is what I do instead:
1. I recognize a doubt or negative thought that I am having.
2. I stop it and tell myself, “No Doubts Allowed!”
3. Then, I replace it with a positive affirmation, or a scripture verse that speaks the truth.
4. I repeat often!
By doing this, we can slowly kick those thoughts out, and dwell on the good. In Philippians 4:8, we are told to dwell on whatever is true, honest, pure and lovely. Doubts, negative thoughts and lies do not belong in this category. Will you join me in getting rid of them? Let’s not let them have an inch in our thoughts okay?
I’m excited to hear how they work for you! Let me know in the comments below.
